Pokemon Analysis

Overview

Makuhita would be a generally decent Fighter if it weren’t for the fact that Korrina & Lucario are unlocked in Chapter 6 of the Main Story. High Health, Potions, and an Enemy Defense Debuffing Offensive Move make him a decent Teammate, but not a great one. Sure he can Buff his own Attack and both Defenses, but that’s more working to fix low base stats.

Strengths

Bringing Them Down to His Level

Makuhita’s stats may be pretty low overall, but his toolkit is all about leveling that playfield. Rock Smash can lower the Enemy’s Defense and Brick-Break removes Buffs the Enemy has that would reduce his Damage against them.

Stretching His Buffs

In addition to sharply increasing his own Attack and both Defenses, having Potion means he can Heal himself and others when they need it. Since his Health stat is so high Potion Heals Makuhita that much more.

Weaknesses

Generally Weak

Beyond Health, all of Makuhita’s stats are quite weak, which doesn’t help the Power of his Moves, which are also on the weak side for their cost.

Situational

On paper, Brick Break looks like a great Move because it looks like it removes all Defense Buffs, but it’s actually far more specific because it only removes Buffs that reduce Damage received. There aren’t a lot of Moves with those specific effects, so Brick Break will rarely have the opportunity to be used to the full advantage it’s intended for.

Sync Moves, while less frequently used, actually do remove all Buffs from all Enemies.

Team Synergy

Physical Strike Team

He’s definitely not the first pick among Fighting Types, but Makuhita can assist his Team through Heals and helping to reduce Enemy Defense with Rock Smash. Since his Defense stats and Speed are so low, it’s good to have a Defense and Sp. DEF Buffing Support on the Team too.

Makuhita’s low Bulk may prevent him from being targeted for most of the Battle, but that won’t protect him from AoE or Sync Move splash Damage.
